Strategic Design

Strategic design is all about creating power. It’s the correlation between user perception, conception and action. We are experts at simplifying the vision of product design to entice the user. We navigate between freedom and power. This is the essence of strategic design.

Our physical product design storytelling disrupts and structures the mind of the user. The devil is in the details, and we are the masters of the details.

Industrial Design

Industrial Design is our passion and the heart and soul of our business. We are experts at commercializing products that strike the perfect balance of innovation, functionality and aesthetics to resonate with users.
We align your business goals, product requirements and target market with expert insights, methodologies and technologies. Once we have all of the pieces of the puzzle, the next part is when we shine to develop and evolve designs that deliver excellent user experiences.

Product Development

A beautiful concept is one thing, commercial success is another. Taking designs into the detailed iterative phases of development is our core strength.

How does it work? How do all the parts come together? How does the user interact? What are the touchpoints? What is the user workflow? Have all the design requirements been met?

We explore these questions through the lens of technical performance, compliance requirements and usability factors. Detailed feasibility criteria, iteration, testing and refinement ensure that products are developed with commercial viability and application in the real world.

Engineering

Great innovation requires experienced engineering. The creation of commercially successful products means intensive planning, bespoke development processes and the use of state-of-the-art tools and techniques.

SHEPPiD is a one-stop shop for technical projects, offering a range of engineering services tailored to your unique requirements. We combine a wide experience of mechanical, electrical, structural, hardware and software engineering to optimize solutions and build production-ready products.

Contract Manufacturing

Given our experience in bringing products to market, we have a large network of trusted manufacturers to offer to our clients for manufacturing serial production parts and assemblies. This includes support options for both onshore and offshore manufacturing that provides flexibility and scalability while meeting production costs, delivery timelines and rigorous quality standards.

We also offer in-house prototyping services and light manufacturing capabilities to optimize products for cost, durability and usability. SHEPPiD facilities include 3D printing, laser cutting and high-speed CNC machining, and we are continually growing these service offerings.

Our designers generate multiple concept directions to visualize the product. We extract the best ideas and make recommendations on how to proceed based on feasibility and suitability to the target market. This is the stage to explore ideas, consider features and user benefits and weigh the pros and cons of development.

Creating and testing prototypes is a key step in the reviewing and refining of any product. Prototypes allow you to make any necessary changes before committing to significant manufacturing costs.

Our prototyping capabilities run the gamut, including a variety of in-house technologies that allow us to be nimble on testing, refining and iterating. Our shop can supply it all: full wood processing capabilities, 3D printing, FDM, SLA, SLS, machining, laser cutting, rapid tooling, reaction injection moulding, injection moulding, blow moulding, vacuum forming, vacuum casting, sand casting, die casting, metal injection moulding — and the list goes on. If we aren’t able to manufacture in-house, we have a large network of local, onshore and offshore prototyping vendors.

Our expert designers create our clients’ new product designs using 3D CAD modelling and 2D detail drawing. CAD software gives our team the ability to create and analyze mechanisms, verify shape and form factors, and test the strengths and weakness of a product design, all virtually before anything is built physically.

We typically draw everything in 3D with parametric solid or surface modelling. We then use the 3D model to generate 2D detail drawings for manufacturing purposes.

Photo-realistic rendering is the easiest and most effective way to visualize from multiple perspectives what our product designs will look like in the real world.

We can customize environments, lighting and colours, and use it as an opportunity to examine any issues regarding details and forms, technical points of any objects and anything else that would impact how the user would perceive the product.

The process of detailing a concept design into a functioning prototype is our core strength. The detail design phase converts concepts, design specifications and technical requirements into final designs.

We take a holistic approach toward completion of the product and its subassemblies, elements and manufacturing processes. Detail design is an iterative process of refinement, modification and optimization to bring together the commercialization of a product ready for the world.

Our leadership team are experts in strategic design, planning product lines and families of products. There are 3 ways we work here: Develop, Maintain and Evolve. Knowing where your products or product lines are in this lifecycle is extremely important. We are true experts in this realm. If your brand is lacking this type of thinking, we can definitely help and add value.

Testing, testing, testing. It’s the simplest and easiest way to figure out if your product works. Verification ensures that you have evidence that specified requirements are met, reducing development costs and time-to-market in the process. Our team is experienced with producing effective, relevant and well-documented verification activity that is regulation-compliant.

Validation is another crucial aspect in any product development, particularly medical devices. Our philosophy is that it’s a mandatory step in the development of any product as it demonstrates that user needs and intended uses are met. Validation ensures high quality, proves safety and efficacy for the end-user in actual-use conditions.

Our team often gets contracted to perform market research to explore gaps and opportunities for new products. Are you looking for the next product in your line or market? We can help identify user needs, industry requirements and future product development.

Graphics, packaging and labeling all compliment the product inside and support your brand identity. First impressions matter and that starts with the perception of how a product is presented and expressed, influencing its relevance, credibility and even usability.

We are experts in creating attractive, functional and sustainable packaging designs that leave a lasting impression with minimal impact, from small consumer products to large medical devices housed in shipping crates.
