A blast from the past, Director Adam Shepperdley executed this project as Lead Industrial Designer during his tenure at Kangaroo Group (now Starfish Medical). The project’s goal was to design enclosures around a dual-operative CT scanner, using a similar but slightly different design aesthetic to IMRIS’ other flagship product, a dual-operative MRI (iMRI). The enclosures were designed and built around IMRIS’ proprietary gantry system and core technology. The initial conceptual design was developed by an alternate Kangaroo Group designer.
Shepperdley was responsible for the design for manufacturing of all the twin-sheet thermoformed enclosures, top-level CAD model management, design management and renderings.
Major Value Proposition:
The major value Shepperdley delivered was the ability to quickly and efficiently produce and deliver first-run prototype parts from tooling directly to iCT installation.
The VISIUS iCT is currently operational at a number of locations globally. Watch the video below to see the installation in action in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Features and benefits to the user:
Dual-operative technology allows the instrument to be in use while the next patient is getting prepared in an adjacent operating room
Increases user throughput with two times more efficient than a conventional stationary CT scanner
Enclosures designed to be accessed easily and independently by a single service technician
Inviting and futuristic look, allowing the patient to feel at ease to enter the instrument
Large feature-free panels make for easy cleaning and disinfecting
